Celebrating International Women’s Day

The Nurse

The cries of a baby pierces through the NICU, despite the many hours already put in you can’t help but feel a stirring in your heart for this little one. Once more you check the vitals before you check on the others relieved to see things well on their way on becoming normal.

The Cosmetologist

Hair clung to your clothes stained by lightener. Despite wearing gloves, color left their impressionist on the nails for days to come. Your back aches and arthritics has set in. Some clients were scoffing and unkind- others brought laughter and gifts. Yet, you look forward to another day because you love what you do.

The Lawer

Another case won, after hours of studying. It’s a man’s world they say, and yet your name is beginning to be known in the courts. Underneath your firm exterior shell lies a heart ignited to help people.

The Major

Battle cry rung through the night. You wonder if you’d make it home. Gripping the M16, you settle yourself remembering why you choose this life. Dirt, grime, and fear didn’t matter- life did.

The Writer

The floor was peeling, mess was everywhere. Your heart cried out for beauty, but you hunkered over the keyboard painstakingly writing words and praying they’d make an impact one that was positive.  Self doubt filled you, but you knew that somehow you must continue if only to pay the bills- but you’d rather your words touch someone’s heart.

The Construction Worker

You hear laughter in the dinning up as you open the front door. Tired seeped into your  bones and mud clung to your clothes. It was another long day at the construction site, many decisions to make, stressing over inspections and fires to put out. You put in long satisfying days, but nothing thrills you more than the laughter of your family.

The Housewife

The aroma of burn’t food reached your nostrils. Tears formed, but swallowing back the dismal feeling of failure you paste on a smile and said something to be thankful of.  Children screamed in the next room, they knew you hated it. You dreamed that they stopped the moment you stepped into the room. But it was a process and today was a two step backwards kinda day.  Any moment your husband would arrive you and you’d had so hoped that the house would stay clean, and there would be at least some edible food on the table. Now it looks like another take out dinner and spend the evening after the kids were in bed cleaning.

What today celebration is

To Us! Today, this day is a special day. A day that is celebrated not just here in America but across the oceans. Today, we celebrate working women. Working women whether single, married, moms- no matter status we celebrate a fact we get to work and for most of us it is an achievement. Opportunities are more open to us than years pro and it has been a hard fight to get that privilege and right.
