When I visited Washing D.C. a couple of years ago, I also visited one of my favorite spots near where I stayed in National Harbor. Water usually draws me near, it’s place of solace that allows me to dream, rest, and rejuvenate. As I was walking around the harbor heading for the famous ferries wheel I saw these lit up signs….they inspired me. They were different signs for American people and one said hopeful. That’s how I’d been feeling when I took a chance to walk around with my camera trying new things. Allowing myself to “escape” reality…no…that’s not quite right. There’s no escaping reality. I allowed myself to find the good, to cling to hope, and find myself thankful.

Soon to be in gallery + shop available in fine art and canvases.

For whatever reason I thought of Lord of the Rings. It’s funny because it’s not my favorite series to watch…but I have great respect for J.R.R. Tolkien. I enjoy quoting the movies as well…because they’re relatable.

“It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.”

J.R.R Tolkien (Samwise spoke it in the last trilogy)

“That there is some good in this word, and it’s worth fight for.”

Sometimes the thought I have when I photograph is no more than just a passing thought, sometimes the thought passes through only years later to be remembered. There’s hope in this world because of Jesus. There is life n Jesus and hope. In the midst of great darkness there’s light still shinning through. Being hopeful we draw expectations…and I for one am expecting good things. Are you?
