A job is just simply a duty. You drag yourself out of bed, get ready, have some breakfast, and with a sigh depart for the job. Often times there’s little excitement or desire to be there. Which is sad…no let me rephrase that, it is pitiful.
While there are some seasons where it just can’t be helped, it is a h.a.r.d season after all. But honestly, while our circumstances can not be changed, our attitudes our perspective can be.
I thought that high school was hard, and it was was. College was hard, and so was beauty school. Yet, all three of them despite being taxing at times held something in common. I loved them, learning and putting what I have learned to use. A thrill was sent to just having the privilege and access to libraries and places where to test my learning. There were days where I dreaded to go, but it paled in comparison to my eagerness of being there.
Sometimes in the adult world, you can barely muster up a grin as you head to your job. Some times you’d rather be shot through the ceiling. Yet, every time you go back often earlier than need be. Get yelled at, cussed at, make stupid mistakes and arrive the next day to do it all over again. Despite the lows, one thing never falters. The determination just to make one person happy, to bless one person. To smile and defeat the scowling negativity swirling above you in a black cloud. To choose to do the absolute best and stay humble to hear your faults day after day. To do something about those “faults” and learn what you can.
A hard job can and will decide your character- it will mark you. However, as much as a job marks you-it is you, yourself who decides the ultimate mark.
For the jobs we hate and the jobs we love, it is something to be thankful for. No matter the amount of money that comes in, we have a chance to build our character and make our mark on the world we live in. The question is what type of character are you building? It’s easier to take the lowest and easiest road…until the end when all comes crashing down. It’s harder to build a good name and harder still to keep it, but it stands the test of time and of loyalty .
